How do I prevent problems when I shave my pubic hair?

I've been completely shaving my pubic hair since last November, and lately I've been getting red bumps (along with dryness and itching) just bellow the beginning of the hairline, and a recently a blood blister. I haven't had any other problems that might imply a larger problem, but I tried to talk to my mom about it and she flipped so now I'm turning here, haha. Does anyone have any tips or advice to fix this? My mom told me to just stop, and leave it but thats not my personal choice. I prefer it the way it is, but not the problems I'm encountering.
