AEM, cold air intake?

I just installed an aem cold air intake in my car. I understand that I must be careful while driving and that my filter doesn't submerged in water. Can I still drive while its raining hard out and during snow showers? There is a byp which eliminates the water from entering the engine but I heard that will reduce speed.
