Chelsea vs Everton: What was Howard's wrongdoing?

The thing I thought was odd was that Anelka took at least two steps before he collided with Howard which made me think he deliberately played for the pen. And the direction of Howard was not the direction of the ball from Anelka's perspective. Was a terrible backp from Neville in the first place though.
