Should the United States look to older countries for the answers to its economic and social problems?

The United States is a relatively "young" country that is still going through growing pains. We have complicated issues that are many times seen from partisan perspectives and really benefit few. It's been said that the true measure of a country's [greatness ?] is how it treats its poor. Which is more important, personal wealth or well being for everyone? What are your thoughts???
